Colombo – Kandy Road (A001)
Rehabilitation, Improvement and Maintenance of Colombo – Kandy Road (A001) (44+300 km to 59+200 km)
Colombo Kandy Road (AA 001) which belongs to Road Development Authority of Sri Lanka (RDA) is being rehabilitated under the Asian Development Bank Funded integrated Road Investment Project (iRoad) project from Pasyala Junction (Ch.44+300) to Kandy (Ch.100+000).
The section from Pasyala Junction (Ch.44+300) to Ambepussa Junction (Ch.59+200) is to be improved to a standard two-lane highway with passing bays, hard shoulder improvements and drainage works including lined drains and waterway crossings by WKK Engineering-World Kaihatsu Joint Venture.
WKK Engineering-World Kaihatsu JV carried out Geotechnical investigations in consultation with Monitoring Consultants for Road Management Contracts of National Roads for the pavement design.
The rehabilitation and Improvement activities (the works) will include but not limited to the following:
- Site Clearing and Excavation;
- Road formation improvement;
- Sub Base construction, Dense Graded Aggregate Base complete with Asphalt Concrete overlay;
- Drainage construction / improvements;
- Culvert rehabilitation/extension and construction;
- Relocation of utilities
- Provision of Facilities for the Engineer/Employer.
Performance Based Road Maintenance Works shall mainly consist of maintenance activities necessary for keeping the Road in compliance with specified Performance or Service Levels.
